I’m just a retired executive who had the good fortune to work for an international hospitality company. I was able to combine business and personal travel both in the U.S. and abroad. I don’t claim to be a “world traveler.” I doubt that I’ve been to more than thirty countries. But when I do travel, I generally stay in one place for several weeks, and before I go, I make it a practice to digest as much as possible about my destinations, their attractions, customs, people and history. I even try to learn at least a little of the language. I don’t want to be l’Americaine mouch! (The Ugly American for those who need translation.)
